Metallic Labels
Metallic labels are printed on silver BOPP, a polypropylene film with a bright, polished silver face, so the whole label reads as metal. Unlike the other finishes, which are coatings or extras added on top, metallic is the label material itself: colors printed on it take on a metallic sheen, and areas backed with white ink stay solid and non-metallic.

Pairs well with
Good to know
- Where you want solid, non-metallic colors, the artwork uses a white ink layer underneath; we set this up with you.
- BOPP is a plastic film, so it holds up better to moisture and handling than paper.
- Metallic labels are silver everywhere you don't print white or color. For metal only on the logo or name, choose Digital Foil on a non-metallic label.

Metallic Labels questions
All labelsWhat are BOPP labels?
BOPP labels are made from biaxially oriented polypropylene, a thin plastic film stretched in two directions for strength. BOPP comes in white, clear and silver; silver BOPP is what gives metallic labels their polished metal look. BOPP resists water and oil better than paper.
What is the difference between metallic labels and foil labels?
A metallic label is printed on silver BOPP film, so the material itself is metallic across the whole label. A foil label uses Digital Foil, which adds metallic foil only to selected areas, like a logo or strain name, on a non-metallic label such as white BOPP or Soft Touch.
Do clear and metallic labels need white ink?
Yes, for any area that should look solid. Printing inks are slightly transparent, so on clear, silver or holographic labels, colors without a white ink layer underneath look see-through or take on the metallic shine. A white underprint behind your artwork keeps those areas opaque, while areas left without white show the clear or metallic film.
